Hazlett Art Studio Open - Nov 20 & 21, Sat & Sun, Noon to 4p

It was a pleasure to open my Hollywood Park, Sacramento art studio during Sac Open Studios Sept '21! I loved talking with visitors about art, masked up, socially distanced, with studio air filters running. I truly did not know what to expect, but enjoyed talking with 96 enthusiastic visitors. Quite an experience, after self isolating for 18 months.

Buoyed by this experience, I am again opening my studio to visitors, with masking and safe distancing required. Perhaps you wish to return, or were not able to make it to my studio in September? Or would just like to talk about art! I'm opening my studio again and have changed out much of my artwork. Hope to see you Sat & Sun, Nov 20 & 21, from noon to 4p.

I’m featuring paintings on silk - miniature, medium and large sizes. As well as new original watercolor cards and very large format encaustic monotypes. Painting with acrylic on stiffened silk was a unique process I developed while completing my MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute over a decade ago. I recently learned to create encaustic monotypes, a fascinating process aligned with my natural art inclinations. These paintings and monotypes, seen in my studio gallery image above, reference calm and beauty in the natural world, abstractly conveyed. A bit of flowing energy too!

Perhaps you’ve seen my suite of silk paintings, Gathering Strength, permanently exhibited in the main lobby of the UC Davis Cancer Center, near Shriner’s Hospital in Sacramento? These silk paintings are similar, though smaller in scale. I welcome your November visit to chat about art and see these artworks, available for purchase.

My studio is at 4311 Attawa Avenue, Sacramento, near Two Rivers Cider Brewery. Pull into the gated parking lot, park, and enter through the white wooden door in the left front of the building. I’ll have it open for you Nov 20 & 21, noon to 4p. If you have questions or would like to have a private showing of these works, just reply to this email or contact me through visiting my website.

Private Watercolor Painting Lessons?

Are you interested in learning how to paint using watercolors? I offer private lessons on painting in transparent watercolor in my art studio. I’m fully vaccinated and require that students are also. Masks required.

Lessons focus on the fundamentals of painting representationally —  having fun while creating original paintings is emphasized!

If you’d like one lesson to learn how to set up your home studio, a series of progressive lessons, or mentorship and guidance while you work in my studio, any of these requests can be met. I also offer graduate level critiques.

If you’re interested, let me know, by replying to this email or by contacting me through my website!

         Recommending Two Shows

A recent visit to the Crocker Art Museum revealed two magnificent visiting art shows, that I am recommending to you!

Step into the Crocker, ascend to the third floor, and you are transported to late 19th and early 20th century Paris, as you visit paintings by French Impressionists, their precursors and the Post-Impressionists.

Unable to travel internationally in recent months, I particularly enjoyed the spectacular Parisian street scenes and landscapes painted by well-known painters: Monet, Renoir, Cassatt, Matisse and Cezanne, among others. The show,  Monet to Matisse, on loan from the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, in Memphis, TN, continues through January 9.

Exiting this gallery to the left, you are transported again in time and space to present day Japan, visiting Hands and Earth, works by 35 contemporary Japanese master ceramicists, including seven of Japan’s notable  Living Natural Treasure artists. These breathtaking sculptures can be seen through April 24.

The Crocker Art Museum is open Wed through Sun, 10a-5p and is located at 216 O St. Masks required. Visit the Crocker website for updated information and enjoy these stellar shows!
